ABOUT the practice

Our practice at the West Rand Eye Centre has been around for many years … We have been looking after patients' eye health here in a caring, professional way since 2001.
The practice is led by Dr Derek de Beer, a highly experienced ophthalmologist (practising since 1987) and co-founder of the West Rand Eye Centre. He is supported by a team of receptionists, an ophthalmic assistant, an optometrist and a practice manager.
The equipment and software at the practice are sophisticated and high-tech. We can therefore diagnose, treat and monitor eye conditions with great accuracy.

Two examples of the technology we use:
a high-resolution camera called Pentacam—which scans and instantly analyses the cornea. That data helps us decide if someone is suitable for Lasik eye surgery. We can also detect certain degenerative eye diseases, like keratoconus.

an advanced German-made imaging machine—which takes 3-D images of the retina. It helps us to detect glaucoma and macular degeneration. It also provides information that is most valuable before doing lens implants for patients with cataracts.

When you first visit us, you will undergo an initial screening, an eye test and an eye health assessment before seeing Dr de Beer. Plenty secure parking space is available at the practice. Our consulting hours:
Monday: 8 am – 6 pm
Tuesday: 8 am – 5 pm
Wednesday: 8 am – 1 pm
Thursday: 8 am – 1 pm
Dr de Beer operates on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and Friday mornings. Your eye health is vitally important. Contact us at any time for an appointment on (tel) or through our online form[Link to online form. ].
